Learning More About North Korea
Chose to read and respond to 2 of the following articles:
1. Recent article from New York Times about North Korea's response to hearing that the U.S. is working with South Korea military.
2. Interesting article about the loosening of internet rules in North Korea, but applies only to foreigners and not North Koreans.
3. Role of China in North Korean politics and policy.
4. Opinion piece from USA Today about the recent nuclear testing by North Korea.
5. Technology/Intranet in North Korea

Gun Rights vs. Gun Control: The Issues, The Positions, The Debate!
Today's Class: Tues 2/5/13 -- Continue learning about the issue of Gun Rights/Gun Control
On Monday 2/11/13, the groups will be presenting what they've learned about their specific issues by showing a Google Presentation that you have created. Each group is responsible for sharing what you've learned AS WELL AS sharing your thoughts/reaction to what you've learned.
Group #1: Debating Universal Background Checks:
Opposing Viewpoints:
In favor of creating more extensive, specific universal background checks
Opposed to creating more extensive, specific universal background checks
You will be debating this on Mon 1/11/13

1. Obama's proposals -- summaries of the major points, your personal reaction to it --good idea? will it be effective? do you think it is a violation of people's rights?
2. What kind of support does Obama have? Who? Why?
3. What kind of opposition does Obama have? Who? Why?
4. In your opinion, what do you think is going to be most difficult to pass/get support for?
5. what are some questions you'd ask Obama about his ideas?
6. Slide on where you got your information
Group #3 Slides needed for each of the following:
1. explain what the Pew Research Study is (need to learn about this today!) and how they got their results.
2. Describe the 5-6 most interesting/important/key beliefs and positions that people have, and your reaction to it -- what is surprising, expected, confusing, hard to believe, important to know when thinking about the future.
3. Should, and if so how, this information be used in deciding what the country should do about gun violence?
4. What additional questions do you have? what would you ask if you were able to give out a survey like this?
Groups #4 and #5: Slides needed for each of the following:
1. Give a bit of a background of your group. (how it was founded, highlights, notable people involved)
2. What are the major views of this group. Be as specific as you can be.
3. What do you think influences their point of view? Why are they so passionate about their beliefs?
4. What are 2-3 questions you would ask them either about their positions, or about any of the key issues related to Gun Rights/Gun Control?
